New “Section 301” Tariffs Effective July 24

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced on the evening of July 23 that it will proceed with imposing Section 301 tariffs on products from 60 countries ranging from 10% to 12.5%. These tariffs became effective on Friday, July 24.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said USTR took final action, at the direction of President Trump, in USTR’s Section 301 Investigations into the Acts, Policies, and Practices of Various Economies Related to the Failure to Impose and Effectively Enforce a Prohibition on the Importation of Goods Produced with Forced Labor.

“Trading partners that have made commitments to adopt, and effectively enforce, forced labor import prohibitions will have a 10% tariff, and trading partners that have failed to adopt a forced labor import prohibition will have a 12.5% tariff rate,” USTR said in a statement.

These tariffs replace the “Section 122” 10% tariff on imports from all countries that expired on July 23.
